It was nice to see better weather yesterday, and even better to see the sun and warmer temperature today. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the course this green without full leaves on the trees, but I expect the trees will change a lot this weekend.
The Spring Thaw presented by Collision Plus Autobody is on tomorrow and Sunday with 8am shotgun starts each day. Follow the action <HERE> on Golf Genius.
Greens on the back nine will be aerated on Monday. This is the traditional timing as we aerate just the 7 older greens in the spring.
Fun Fact: The greens on holes 10, 11, and 13-17 are annual bluegrass, also known as Poa annua. They were built over 90 years ago, with more slope and smaller overall area. Compared to larger “USGA greens” with multi-layered drainage, the Poa greens were built using standard soil from the area. In most cases, material from the surrounding bunkers was removed and shaped into a green.
Aerating the older greens reduces compaction and adds sand to the soil profile for better drainage and better growing conditions. It's a program that has proven to be successful, but never popular. On the bright side, Poa is more active this time of year, and the healing time is relatively short.

The New Maintenance Building is very close to completion, with just a few small details and mechanical adjustments left to finish up. We’re also waiting on the final utility hookup, which is an important one, as SaskPower is coming in with a new line under the 16th fairway sometime in the next 5-10 days. We expect Miners Construction will turn over the building as soon as switch happens from temporary to regular power service.
An open house is planned for the maintenance facility once the staff move in and get settled. Watch for an announcement in the next few weeks on the date and time.
Have a Great Weekend,
McLaren Taylor
