Yesterday’s Member Guest Tournament was another great success with 66 teams participating on a beautiful afternoon and evening. A big thanks to the members and guests who supported, as well as our many sponsors including the presenting sponsor WLAW (Kennedy Baum).
Congratulations to three members who scored a hole-in-one since last week’s update. It started with Marcia Clark on the 6th Hole last Sunday, followed by Karen Grauer July 7th on the 8th Hole. That's twice in one week for the Grauer household as Randy got his last Friday. Then last night, Patrick Lewis aced the 12th Hole during the Member Guest.
Next week’s Men’s and Women’s Nights are cancelled due to the ICR Classic, charity auction Tuesday and tournament Wednesday. They return on July 21 & 22.
The ICR Tournament is still in need of a few volunteer scorers. Our Senior Men’s Thursday Syndicate has provided this service for many years as a fundraiser for their league. A sign-up sheet is located on the bulletin board in the men’s locker room, or contact Ken Gunn directly ([email protected])
The Club Championship presented by Affinity Credit Union is July 25 & 26. Registration is open <HERE> on Golf Genius. Categories include Men, Women, Senior Men age 55 plus and Senior Women age 50 plus, and Junior Boys and Junior Girls age 18 & under as of August 1st.

Fun Fact: After a conversation with our pinsetters about the razer thin line between challenging and unfair, I wanted to pass along some basics about pin placements.
- First off, they are changed every day. Really basic I know, but perhaps a few readers are not aware.
- There’s a rotation of front-middle-back with left and right options on most greens. On the 15th hole the rotation is side-to-side because the front half of the green is not useable or not “pinnable” as they say in the hole-cutting world.
- The 11th green is an example of a small undulating green with limited options…which makes it challenging to avoid old plugs. (This sometimes leads to a high-red pin and and discussions on razer thin lines)
- At about 21 days to fully heal, old plugs are hard to avoid when space is limited and pinsetters are coming back to the same area 7 times during that period.
- Plugs are less noticealbe on the back-9 since the poa-annua greens heal faster…which is a good thing as they are smaller with fewer options.
Our pinsetters seem to have good touch with the auger and do their best to distribute where they can. I also think they’re getting better at understanding challenging and unfair. One thing I didn't know was that they carry two augers every day and switch after nine-holes for better cuts. Both augers are then sharpened before they're used again the next day. I also thought it was interesting to see how the high-red pin on 11 didn't look that bad in the morning light. Of course, I hadn't just left it above the hole as I did the night before.
Have a Great Weekend
