The Club Championship last weekend saw some great play including a final round 69 from Kim Brown to capture the Women’s Division, and a playoff win for Chris Schneider in the Men’s Division. Other division winners were Beth Davis (Senior Women), Milt Grolla (Senior Men), Murray Eddy (Legends Men), Sarah Henderson (Junior Girls) and Brady Guenther (Junior Boys). Full results are available <HERE>.

Aeration earlier this week went smoothly thanks to the warm dry weather. Aeration lets the green breathe and reduces compaction from daily mowing, foot traffic, and regular rolling. Imagine cutting your front lawn that short with a riding mower, rolling every few days with a 700 lb roller, and having the whole neighborhood putt on it every day. Over time, a layer of organic material builds up under the green surface that supports disease and forms a barrier for roots and good drainage. Letting them breath and adding new sand to the soil profile is an essential process, particularly for the older soil-based greens. Full-core aeration at this time of year has the added benefit of helping keep Poa annua grass out of the bent grass greens as the bent will out compete the Poa as it heals.

No Holes-in-One this week to report...but Sloane said he birdied 15 this morning. We're sitting at 13 aces this year with 9 of those on Hole #6. Last year we had 10 by the end of July, which was unusually slow. Interesting that 7/10 at this time last year were on Hole #8.

Fun Fact: A few people asked me about rounds of golf this week wondering if we’re up or down versus last year. The answer is that we’re down about 12% through the end of July. That’s 20,600 rounds to date compared to 23,500 by this time last year. A third of that was in April, and the rest was split evenly in May through July. Of course, last year was an exceptional year for rounds played, second only to the Covid boom in 2021. This July is just finishing at about 7900 rounds and still the second busiest July we’ve ever had.

Not So Fun Fact: The A/C unit that serves the Pro Shop, Lobby, and Offices failed this week and it will be later next week before it can be resolved. For the first time in our history, maintenance has it better than the office staff. Thankfully, the locker rooms and all areas upstairs are serviced separately and still running fine.

Have a Great Weekend,
