Fun Facts: SGCC had a record 8291 rounds played in July, for an average of 267 players per day if you're into the math. We had 8 days in July with over 300 players, including 344 players on July 24th. On average, Friday is our busiest day, followed by Sunday...with Saturday running a very close 3rd.
Course Maintenance Update: Terry and his crew have been doing a great job keeping the course in shape considering the daily traffic. That includes this week's aeration, which is done to reduce compaction and bring more oxygen and water to the plant roots.
The older greens on the back-nine are aerated twice each year because of their age and construction. The newer greens on the front-nine are modern "USGA" greens (layered construction) and are only aerated once each year. With the Canadian Am last summer, the front-nine greens haven't been done since May last year.
The choice to aerate at this time of year aligns with the best growing conditions for quicker healing, and fits best with the club's tournament calendar. Earlier, or later in the year takes longer to heal, and would certainly affect one of our club tournaments. And, off-season aeration is viewed as too risky for our greens, not to mention aerated greens to start the season.
Congratulations to Dan Manion on his Hole-in-One yesterday (Thursday) on Hole #8...and SGCC's Zack Hyshka who is among 35 Assistant Superintendents selected to attend a "Toro Experience" education session next week at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minneapolis.
Have a Great Weekend
