After a beautiful opening day last Saturday, and mixed weather this week, it seems to have turned around now. Just in time for the earlier 7am tee-times this morning. The tee-sheet will stay that way until next Friday, when 6am tee-times begin.
The golf course is in excellent condition for the start of a new season. The greens wintered well, and all areas look to be in great shape. Please remember the basic rules of golf etiquette, to leave the course the same or better than you found it. Members and guests can do this by:
- Fixing ball marks
- Sanding or replacing divots
- Raking sand traps
- Tidying up anything that is missed, as it does sometimes
Knowing that these are not optional, is an part of being a good golfer and a good member at SGCC.
Pace of Play is being tracked and monitored more closely this year. Hourly split times are being posted on busy days, and more details reports on pace are being kept. If there is one simple piece of advice, it’s to keep up to the group in front. We have full confidence in our early players, and evidence will show that they have no trouble setting the pace at 4-hours or less. Keeping up is all that is required. Yes, there’s a lot more we can say about pace, but if every group is keeping up there’s nothing else to talk about.
A Multi-Vendor Demo Day is coming up next Thursday May 14th with Titleist, Callaway, TaylorMade, Ping, Cobra, and Srixon. It all starts a 4pm with Postal Pizza and our beverage cart on site. It’s an opportunity to see and swing clubs from multiple vendors. Additional “fitting days” will be announced soon.
The Women’s Opening Meeting and Brunch was well attended last Sunday. Information on leagues and the Captain’s Challenge are posted on the Women’s Golf Page. An email from the league coordinators also went out yesterday. It's posted <HERE> on the Member Dashboard.
BTW…Mother’s Day Dinner still has openings. Brunch is sold out.
Junior Group Lessons start on Monday. The sign-up link is <HERE> and additional information on league dates is posted <HERE>.
The Spring Thaw presented by Collision Plus Autobody is May 23 & 24. The field is set as entries filled quickly last Friday. Members are reminded that club tournaments like the Spring Thaw and Frostbite are handicapped. A valid handicap for each competitor is pulled from Golf Canada automatically into the scoring system. Anyone without a handicap will play without strokes. Estimates, and handicaps from unofficial handicap programs will not be accepted.
League Play starts next week with Tuesday Morning Ladies, Tuesday Men’s Night, Wednesday Women’s Night, and Thursday Senior Men. All registration links are available on the Club Calendar, with additional detail on the respective league pages found under Member Central/Leagues & Tournaments.
Note: The same handicap requirement (and rule for those without one) applies to Men’s Night for all Members and Guests.
Have a Great Weekend.
